GROWTH SYSTEM / ADEPTA NOTE 04
Where growth actually breaks
More ads cannot repair a weak offer, broken measurement or slow sales response. Find the constraint before buying another solution. 11 min read
Growth is limited by the weakest handoff in the system. Fix that handoff before optimizing everything around it.
A symptom is not yet a bottleneck
“Ads do not work” can mean the audience ignores the message, the landing page confuses them, analytics loses the purchase, sales calls too late or the economics never worked. Each symptom points to a different intervention. Naming the visible problem is only the beginning; the job is to locate where value stops moving.
Draw the journey as observable handoffs
Map the promise, ad, landing page, event, sales conversation, payment and repeat behavior. For every handoff, write what enters, who owns it, what success looks like and where evidence lives. The map becomes useful when two teams can point to the same break instead of defending their own dashboard.
Compare loss with the cost of fixing it
The largest percentage drop is not automatically the first priority. Estimate how much value leaks, how confidently the cause is known, how quickly an intervention can be tested and what else it affects. A two-hour fix to lead routing may beat a six-week redesign even when the redesign looks more impressive.
- Value currently leaking
- Evidence behind the diagnosis
- Time and risk of the smallest test
Change one constraint at a time
If the team changes the offer, page, audience, creative and sales script simultaneously, a positive result still teaches very little. Keep the rest of the path stable, define the expected movement and choose a stop rule. The purpose of the experiment is not only to win, but to make the next decision easier.
Show the first artifact quickly
A working event map, revised first screen, connected lead route or small dashboard reduces uncertainty faster than a long strategy deck. It does not mean finishing the whole project in 48 hours. It means exposing the direction early enough to correct it before expensive production begins.
Re-map after every meaningful win
Once one constraint moves, another becomes visible. Better ads may expose a weak checkout; a stronger page may expose slow fulfillment. This is normal. A growth system is not a finished diagram — it is a disciplined way to decide what deserves attention next.
